Horsemeat has been sold within living memory, mostly by horse meat butchers. Even the British have discovered that horsemeat is very tasteful. Until recently, they felt a horse to be too noble an animal for human consumption. Certain chefs even find horsemeat more tasteful than beef, an opinion that will most certainly not be shared by everyone. Horsemeat contains less fat and more iron and is often cheaper that beef.
A limited number of horses are slaughtered every week in our slaughterhouse, but it is a rather small number compared to the industrial slaughterhouses in Belgium and abroad.
