On average, the Belgian consumer eats 2 kg of mutton per year. In other European countries, the average is twice that much. No surprise, because mutton is healthy and tasteful. But the Belgian consumer is not familiar with the many fine preparations of this delicious meat.
Still, cookery books are filled with recipes for preparing the most wonderful lamb and mutton dishes. Just think of the many stews possible, especially on the menu in oriental restaurants.
Sheep and lambs are frequently slaughtered at the Anderlecht abattoir. No wonder that quite a few wholesalers trade this particular kind of meat. You can find them listed up hereunder.
