And the Golden brochette winner is …

The “Groot Eiland & Cosmos team” are the winners of the Golden brochette at the Grill Kanal contest. There were ten teams from Brussels organizations competing at the Abatoir premises in Anderlecht. Each team brought  his ultimate version of what was for them to be the best brochette ever: Persian, vegetarian, inspired by the sea, multicultural with chicken or lamb, … They were all tasted and evaluated by a numerous crowd and a professional jury.

David Martin, the president of the jury (chef at “La Paix”), set the example. During a cooking-demonstration he revealed to the public the many secrets of the noble art of grilling. Through a lotterie, the professional grill he had been working on got won by a grill fanatic from the public.

While Gankpo, a musical group, was bringing the crowd in the right atmosphere, the brochettes were being tasted and judged by taste, appearance and originality. Together, the public and the jury decided that the best Brussels brochette was composed and grilled by “Atelier Groot Eiland & Cosmos”: marinated chicken wings with candied pumpkin and rice balls.

The “Atelier” could take the Golden brochette home, a piece of jewelry created by Kimy Gringoire (Kim Mee Hye) and Alex Lejeune, a designers couple.

Grill Kanal was organized by Vol-au-Vent (a non-profit organization) in collaboration with Platform Kanal at the occasion of the “Week of Taste”. Brussels, the capital of taste, was also actively involved. With events like these, the VGC (Flemish Community Commission) wants to highlight the cultural and culinary diversity of our capital and gather people around the many aspects of “Taste”.
