Who wins Altran Foundation Award 2013?

“Technological innovation for safe, sustainable and healthy food.”  That was the theme of the 2013 Altran Foundation Award in Belgium. We are proud to announce that our Abattoir project has been selected. Tonight, a professional jury will choose the best project amongst the four finalists! Abattoir applied for this award in view of the realization of a new urban slaughterhouse on our company's site. Quite a challenge, as many slaughterhouses in big cities have disappeared...

What's ALTRAN ?

Altran is an international group offering innovation and high-tech engineering consulting and is the global leader in its field. The Group's mission is to assist companies in their efforts to create and develop new products and services.
Health risk control is a fundamental requirement of modern society, especially in the sensitive area of food. Tracing food products up or down the supply chain is clearly a difficult task. Adding to this complexity, is the fact that our planet is a limited environment where resources are not unlimited. To feed the ever growing world population in the long term, we need to change the way we produce, transport and consume food.

Since its creation in 1982, Altran has been involved in major innovations over the years, effectively helping to develop those of tomorrow. Having become a global leader in innovation consulting, the Group wished to use the skills it has developed for the common good.
In 1996, Altran created a new independent international entity: The Altran Foundation for Innovation. Its mission is to "Promote technological innovation for human benefit" and its objectives are as follows:
   - to promote the emergence of creative ideas;
   - to support the development of innovative ideas;
   - to enable projects to progress more quickly.

 Under the Foundation's statutes, the projects it wants to support must be selected by means of a competition.

An international Award for innovative scientific projects

Before 2012, the Altran Foundation for Innovation used to organize each year an international competition for innovative scientific projects for the benefit of the common good. This year, a national competition has been organized in all participating countries, followed by an international final. In each country, the Foundation selects a specific theme and rewards the best innovative project.

The Award Ceremony will take place on December 3rd at "La Maison de l'Automobile" in Brussels (only on invitation).

The following four finalists have been selected: GreenKow, GHL Group S.A., Abattoir N.V. and a team of 3 students of the UCL. The jury is composed of the following members: Miss Evelyne Huyttebroeck, President of the Jury and Minister of the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region, Mr Gilbert Houins, Managing-Director of AFSCA, Mr François Heroufosse, Director of Wagralim, Mr Geert Maesmans, from company Cargill and Dr. Hans De Steur, PhD Research Assistant at the Ghent University.

Abattoir will be represented by Mr Jan Van Assche, Mr  Jo Huygh and Mr Joris Tiebout, our CEO. Around 8.00 p.m. we will know the jury's final decision on who will have been designated as the Winner of the Altran Foundation Belgium 2013 Award.
