Kanal Play Ground: more than 130 ideas...

More than130 candidates responded to the call for ideas launched by Kanal Play Ground. Each of them came with architectural or artistic proposals for installations, even provocations for the Canal zone, including our Abattoir site. The objective for this call is to make this zone more dynamic and to create a public area with room for leasure, sports and encounter adapted for children, youth and famalies living in this central quarters of town. Twenty-five ideas are now being examined by experts. Some of the winning projects will be tested out during the summer.

This initiative from Platform Kanal and Architecture Workroom Brussels is a remarkable one, and a warm one at the same time
A jury of experts lead by M. Olivier Bastin (Master Architect, Brussels) and Markus Bader (Raumlabor, Berlin), made their selection on Monday 3 February at the Hôtel de la Poste (Tour & Taxis).
Some twenty ideas were selected as temporary transformations for the summer 2014 period. This selection is meant to be the starting-point of a lengthy process of co-creation. The winners will be involved in a laboratory trajectory in which certain membres of the jury will function either as coach or as expert in specific disciplines (security, technics, ...), but also as "field players" in order to share their knowledge when searching for solutions and final projects.

L'asbl Cultureghem (a non profit organization) has also contributed to Kanal Play Ground by launching the idea of a large playing and sports ground under the protection of the Abattoir hall's roof.

But the proposals are not only focussed on sports and games. A group of young architects wants to establish a dialogue with the youngsters who live there to find out about their ideas and proposals.
